BEDUC406 - 9/22 Tuesday

Second full week of class and the 4th graders are back with a renewed interest in testing the class management systems. My failures are in taking them in line from point A to point B. In that situatation I feel like the kids have turned into Thing 1 and Thing 2 from the Cat in the Hat. I have held them up such that they have been late to both Gym and Art as well as Lunch and actually leaving for the day. Though the last seems like I am only punishing myself.

More class management experience. Monday we had a sub for half the day. She was an experienced teacher and had her own set of expectations that aligned with the existing classroom expectations. Her consequences were quite different, she did not hesitate to send students out into the hall.So our newly inspired students were visiting the hall. It did make an impression on the other children. i was surpirsed at how qickly the sub implemented her consequences. She will be back next week for four days, so she was setting up for the future.

Today, the class was even more edgy, and my master teacher exercised her consequences, which are a series of self reflection questions. The emotional impact of describing in writing what happened and why, was impressive. One of the boys was having a VERY BAD DAY. He may be refered to SIT because he does not stay seated for more than 30 seconds.

The overtly bad behavior does provide a screen for kids that are privately disobeying the directions or expectations. This level of general disobedience is interesting to see, and I wonder how much you overlook?
